The Beginning

So recently in our Critical Thinking class, we began talking about media and the uses of language within it. Recently, a Korean Drama came out that is focusing on journalism. While watching this, I notice that the media within is very manipulative and that they try to make people look as awful as possible. The current relationship I have with the media is very critical, as I really hate how the media airs things such as Ebola and other things. Within the drama, the first conflict point is when a group of firefighters goes into a burning building to save two people who were reported to still be in there by the manager who escaped. 9 of the 10 firemen die as a result of explosives that were inside of the building, and 1 who was reported to be alive, but was last seen closest to the explosions, is blamed by a certain reporter for the deaths of the 9 other people. And through this, I have a negative outlook on media in general because of the way they manipulate words and perceptions.

The drama, by the way, is named Pinocchio, after the Pinocchio Syndrome where people who tell lies get hiccups. It can be found here: Pinocchio
